2024 KPD Lifeguarding Course
Purpose: To hold a Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification class for participants to have the opportunity to get certified as lifeguards before the beginning of the summer pool season.
Who: Anyone 15 years or older who wishes to become certified in Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED (students must be 15 years old by the end date of the class 5/24/24).
Where: KPD Pool, 1000 Vine Street, Greenville IL 62246
When: The online learning portion must be completed before Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
5/22 3:30 pm – 8 pm KPD Pool
5/23 2:30 pm – 8 pm KPD Pool
5/24 9 am – 7 pm KPD Pool
Cost:
Certification: $180.00 for those working for the Kingsbury Park District. $280.00 for those not working at the Kingsbury Park District.
Upon completion of the course and passing the required tests, a certificate of completion, good for 2 years, will be administered.
Participants must be able to pass the following skills test which will be done on. If the student cannot pass the skills test, they cannot be certified and will be refunded their payment.
- Prerequisite 1:
- Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest:
- Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed.)
- Maintain position at the water's surface for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs.
- Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both.
- Prerequisite 2:
- Complete a timed event within 1 minute and 40 seconds:
- Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.)
- Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 – 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
- Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface.
- Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
