The Kingsbury Park District is proud to partner with Phil Steocklin to bring you a variety of Martial Arts opportunities. The District offers different levels to accommodate skill levels from beginners to the more advanced. Students will learn various positions and drills to develop body awareness, strength, and proper form, as well as the opportunity to practice these skills in supervised sparring. Register quickly, as space in each class is limited. Cost of each class varies. Classes will be broken down into multiple sessions throughout the year.
This session will include kicking drills and free sparring. This class will stress coordination and body mechanics, focus, spatial awareness, flexibility, and physical conditioning. *Equipment is available for purchase (at our cost) through the Kingsbury Park District that meets our instructor’s safety requirements but not necessary to take the class. The Kingsbury Park District has equipment available during class times for those not interested in purchasing at this time. If purchasing your own equipment it MUST be approved by the Tae Kwon Do instructor to ensure the participants safety. ** The Kingsbury Park District has equipment available during class times for those not interested in purchasing their own at this time**
Danzan Ryu Jujitsu – Danzan Ryu is one of the largest systems of traditional jujitsu taught in the United States. Students progress through a series of ‘boards’ which teach striking, break falls, escapes, locks & holds, throwing, ground fighting, and restorative techniques. Classes will emphasize conditioning and precision, and well as randori and various combative/self-defense drills.
This session will introduce the basics of Tae Kwon Do. These classes will stress coordination and body mechanics, focus, spatial awareness, flexibility, and physical conditioning. If you haven’t tried Tae Kwon Do before this will be a great introductory experience. This class will only be offered once this fall. Those wishing to participate in our Intermediate TKD classes must take this as a prerequisite if they have never taken Tae Kwon Do with the KPD before. *This is a no contact Tae Kwon Do Class, participants will not be sparring.* In the event we do not have enough participants for the Intro Class those registered will meet Monday nights with the Intermediate Class from 5pm - 6pm. During this time you will practice drills with the instructor and his assistant. The Kingsbury park district will notify you via email and phone call if this occurs.
